There are also further factors to consider as part of the decision-making process for tracked sliding gates:

• Tracked sliding gates require slightly less space to operate compared to a cantilevered sliding gate, as the latter needs a longer linear run adjacent to the access point for the cantilever element of the gate to move into (so as to counterbalance the weight of the actual gate).  If this space simply isn’t available, then tracked gates will be the only option (assuming a swing gate also isn’t suitable of course).  As a guide, tracked gates can be about 10% less in total length to cover the same width of access.
• If the nature of the site means it will be relatively clean and free of debris, then this, in turn, will mean that the track set into the ground can be kept clear and allow the gate to work properly.  However, if the nature of the site means that debris – e.g. mud and small stones – are a problem and perhaps carried on the tyres of vehicles, then tracked gates probably aren’t viable options because the track will require continual attention to keep it clear.
• Related to the above point, is the issue of snow and ice in the winter months.  So if the location of the site is prone to snow and ice, then tracked sliding gates will be far less suitable because of the work needed to keep the track clear in order for the gates to run.
